This project was inspired by Emilie Wapnick’s TED Talk entitled “Why some of us don’t have one true calling.”As an exploration in the art of retelling stories in a unique fashion we were asked not to use any of the original video from the source material. The video essay was created using assets created in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Adobe After Effects. I wanted to capture the feeling that every child has felt when they are told they can’t grow up to have their dream job of princess, or pirate, or whatever it may be. To represent the binary between creative, multipotentialite thought and close-minded doubt, I chose to use bright, cheerful colored assets, animated with bounce effects and spins, contrasted linearly animated assets of dark, neutral tones.
